@bootsamou,
Thanks … @bootsamou,
Thanks for the feedback, much appreciated. Most of the time, laying on your back is fine, as long as your hip flexors aren't too tight, which causes pain. I'm not concerned much unless a disc bulge is REALLY bad. In this situation, I highly recommend a "Mckenzie night roll".
Sam. Yor talks are … Sam. Yor talks are fantastic. After 1mnth of inmobility & 7 further mnths of discomfort, I've been diagnosed with L5 disc bulge. I began to think it was with me forever but u have given me hope that it WILL eventually heal.
Re: sleeping. I hav found it better to lay flat, sometimes with my hands in the small of my back to aid support ~ I've never had an arch. (If I lay with pillows under my knees, as suggeted, my back curves which is not good.) Is this ok? ~ I don't want to hinder any healing.
@MrBigjon89,
That … @MrBigjon89,
That doesn't mean the disc isn't problematic, simply because its not producing pain. Its important to understand where discs are bulging because it tells you where you are putting stress on your spine.
so if i can press … so if i can press hard on my back without feeling any pain does that mean that im pretty safe also it doenst hurt most of the time and even when it does its more like a minor discomfort rather than pain
how do you know if … how do you know if you really have disc herniation is there a way of testing youre self
Thank you so much … Thank you so much for these video you have posted. I personally can't put a price on pain relief.
I've given up … I've given up really.
Most of the GP's i've seen are in a world of their own.
I find that if i do not excercise the problem is exacerbated, so I try to do gentle things such as walking the dog for a mile or more a day and it does help.
However, it's one of those "1 step forward, 2 steps back"
I will have to see someone in time.
I just herniated my … I just herniated my disc last night doing squats for my exercise routines (315lbs), and thank GOD for these videos. They give me hope, as I was sooooo stupid and am now paying the price.

Your doctor should have sent you to a Physical Therapist … so many times doctors will just try to mask the prob with pain meds. Go back and demand therapy from a specialist so that you can be taught how strengthen your core muscles with hurting yourself.
I've been having … I've been having problems for over 6 months.
There was one stage I could not move for the pain. Gradually with rest *my GP advised me to lie down for 2 weeks* it improved and then I have been doing gentle excercise. Now, suddenly, it is back and I am in pain again. I cannot stand on my right leg as it feels so weak and the pain shoots through me. Bending hurts, lying on my side hurts,walking hurts etc.
But my doctor does not think it is a problem that cannot be fixed by drugging me on co-codomal
In posterior disc … In posterior disc bulges, bending forward (spinal flexion) would KILL, because the bulge would increase toward the nerve root.
If extension is causing pain its possible to be rotated or side flexed in the spine due to mis-alignment, and thus moving into extension pinches the bulge.
I HIGHLY suggest Robin Mckenzie's book for ALL disc pain patients "7 Steps To A Pain Free Back". You may need to perform Side Gliding motions PRIOR to extensions to get relief.
threadysparrow,
… threadysparrow,
Thanks for your comment, but this is simply not true. It depends on the case and the individual. Surgery is the LAST resort, and I'm glad you felt better, however, based on statistics, overwhelming majority of patients don't feel better or even feel worse after surgery. The diagnosis now for this is "FBSS" Failed Back Surgery Syndrome.
GO TO YOUR DOCTOR … GO TO YOUR DOCTOR ASAP AND GET AN APPOINTMENT WITH AN ORTHOPEDIST. this is very important to do. alot of times surgery is the best option. i had surgery 7 years ago and then again yesterday for 2 separate discs. trust me this is not something that you can do "holistic" on. surgery is inconvenient for about a week afterwards but its same day surgery and you will feel better right away.
I have a lumbar … I have a lumbar central herniated disc between l 4 and 5. also lumbar spodylolisthesis every way I bend hurts so i have been laying down. Are there any exercises you know of?
thank you very much …
thank you very much i can rest easily now

I have spent 2 1/2months unable to stand up straight because of L5-S1 disc herniation. All this time I had incredible sciatic pain below the knee. It felt like someone hit my left leg with a bat, litterally, 24/7. A week ago, I was prescribed an anti-inflamatory; diclofenac sodium. After a week of taking it I now stand up straight and the pain is almost all gone!!! I thought medication wasn t needed but if u suffer from a disc injury the inflamation, I now realize, is a huge enemy.
@MrBigjon89,
There …
@MrBigjon89,
There are tests for provoking the pain clinically in order to really find out if its the disc, but I would NOT suggest trying them on your own.
The most common issue with a posterior disc bulge is that flexion forward (rounding the lower back) increases pain, or flexion + rotation to the opposite side of the pain. Most acute disc bulges will radiate pain if pressing on a nerve, so it will be VERY obvious if the disc is the real cause.
hi Sam,its me again …
hi Sam,its me again. I have now been in the same condition, without any improvments for 2 months. I cant stand up straight and am living with sciatic pain 24/7. How do I know if am gonna need surgery?… any suggestions?

WoodlandAsh,
My …
WoodlandAsh,
My advice in these situations is to EDUCATE yourself as best you can, so you can make good decisions regarding your back pain. The BEST resource for disc related issues is Robin Mckenzie’s book, “7 Steps To A Pain Free Life”. I really need to start selling this book with as many recommendations I make to read it!
Thanks so much for …
Thanks so much for answering Holistic Sam. You re a good man!

Nick,
I’m sure …
Nick,
I’m sure you understand, I cannot recommend anything specific for you. Generally, it can take up to 18 months to completely heal a disc tear, but obviously many people can get pain relief long before that. 3 months is a good amount of time to significant changes in pain levels, but the disc problem isn’t gone, just not pressing on the nerve root. Takes a while to heal the structural damage.
side gliding helps …
side gliding helps me extending indeed… should I stretch this way then? I ve been “bent over” for a month already with little improvments. How long u think recovery can take Doc???
Thank you
Nick
I cannot walk …
I cannot walk upright right now. It hurts in the butt and down the leg when i try to stand up. My chiro said it was most likely due to L5 S1 disc herniation. Bending forward is no problem for me, the opposite motion is… why is it and what exercices can i do?
thank u kindly
Nick V

That depends on if its acute or a chronic problem.
