The evolution of Disc Replacement

Visit http://www.stenumhospital.com When the first American came to Stenum, doctors in Germany were using disc replacements that had plastic cores, were prone to migration, as well as other issues.
In 2004 a simple, 2 piece implant, The Maverick Lumbar/Prestige LP cervical disc, was introduced. This implant had no plastic, eliminated the migration issues, with its advanced endplate design, and was more stable due to its ball in socket concept. By eliminating the need for risky revision surgeries, this was a significant breakthrough. Still we were faced with an unrestrained mobile joint, unpredictable motion characteristics, and no shock absorption. Our goal to replicate the function of the human disc was still not achieved.
In 2006 we introduced the achievement of this final goal. Stenum Hospital is now using the breakthrough Spinal Kinetics M6 implant. This implant achieves the ultimate goal of replicating the healthy human disc. By providing shock absorption and graded variable motion resistance, the M6 works in concert with the remaining human discs, to provide the best possible outcome. This “Quality of Motion” is a major benefit not available in any other implant we have seen! The M6 cervical implant is approved for use in Europe and the M6 Lumbar will be available soon.
