Explanation of Microdiscectomy for Lumbar Disc Herniation, Low Back Pain and Leg Pain

Dr. Donald Corenman, MD, DC (970-479-5895), is an orthopedic spine surgeon in Colorado who specializes in all conditions and disorders of the cervical, thoracic and lumbar spine. He recently launched his own educational website ( http://neckandback.com ) for patients, physicians and colleagues to get information and to use as a 2nd resource for conditions and treatment options relating to the spine including low back pain and leg pain.

Dr. Corenman recently created this video to provide an explanation of microdiscectomy for lumbar disc herniation, low back pain and leg pain.

The microdiscectomy procedure is designed for a herniated disc in the lumbar spine. The microdiscetomy is the simplest and most satisfying lumbar spinal surgery there is. This video—Explanation of Microdiscectomy for Lumbar Disc Herniation and Leg Pain—explains the anatomy and the technique of this procedure where the compressed nerve is released from the herniated disc or bone spur. This is the companion video to the “Video of a surgical microdiscetomy at the L5-S1 level” where live footage of a microdiscectomy is viewed (you can find these on the neckandback You Tube channel).

Dr. Corenman has been a spine surgeon in Colorado for more than 18 years. He has dedicated his professional life educating others about spinal disorders and treatments. If you suffer from low back pain and leg pain, you can learn more about Dr. Corenman by visiting his educational website. He also has a variety of spine related presentations for public viewing at: http://www.slideshare.net/neckandback ; For spine images, visit: http://www.flickr.com/photos/neckandback/ ; To visit Dr. Corenman on LinkedIn, visit: http://www.linkedin.com/in/drdonaldcorenmanspinesurgeon

Neurosurgical: Methodist University Hospital presents herniated disc repair using MicroDiscectomy technique known as the METRx system, a minimal access process with incisions smaller than a dime. See this live at 4:00 pm CDT (21:00 UTC). Annually, more than 250,000 Americans undergo surgery to remove or repair herniated discs, a leading cause of back pain. While this type of operation eventually can improve function, recovery time has traditionally proven to be painful and last several weeks. However, a new MicroDiscectomy technique known as the METRx system allows surgeons to repair debilitating herniated discs using a minimal access process, with incisions smaller than a dime.
